ICAR-KVK- Ri-Bhoi, ICAR (RC) for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized “World Soil Day-2025 cum Soil Health Camp” on 5th December 2025 at Mawlein Mawkhan Village of Umsning Block of Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. The theme of the World Soil Day-2025 is ‘Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities. The aim of the programme was to create awareness and enhance knowledge on soil health, benefits of soil health cards, management of problematic soil, management of soil degradation for sustainability of soil which will lead the enhancement of crop productivity. About 50 farmers and farm women and officials from ICAR-KVK-Ri-Bhoi were participated in the programme. Dr. Popiha Bordoloi, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science) described about the importance of celebration of ‘World Soil Day’ which is directly linked to sustainable Environment. She also nicely elaborated about the importance of Soil Health Cards, soil acidity, and Lime application in acidic soil for getting higher crop yield, management of soil degradation which are the major problems of Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. Smt. Jessica Dohtdong (PA, Home Science) had talked about the importance of soil health for healthy life and healthy people. Latter Farmers Scientist Interaction programme was held. Agri- Inputs like Potato seeds, Tomato seeds, agricultural Lime, Neem cake, and rock phosphate were distributed to the farmers.
